Senior Katie Shimaura was the co-winner of the ChamPIOn award at the 2023-24 ELCY Awards. The ChamPIOn award honors student-athletes yearly who exemplify Building ChamPIOns: Excellence in Competition, the Classroom, in our Community, and their own personal Character. The individual must demonstrate the true Pioneers Spirit and the culture of Building Champions. This year, she served as president of the Lewis & Clark Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), co-president of the Hawaii Club, worked at the IT help desk and was a computer science TA. As the volleyball team's starting libero for the third straight season, she led the team with 420 digs and became the fourth player in program history to record 1,000 career digs. Shimaura wrapped up her career third in program history in career digs (1,065) and eighth in career aces (89). She graduated this spring with a computer science and mathematics degree and a data science minor.
