Doug Lennox joined Lewis & Clark College as the Athletics Advancement Officer in the summer of 2023.
Lennox comes to Lewis & Clark with an extensive athletics and fundraising background. As an undergraduate, he competed for Princeton University in swimming and wrapped up his career as a five-time All-American, two-time Academic All-American and a captain of the undefeated 2009 team in his time with the Tigers. He also swam internationally for Puerto Rico and competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the 100 and 200 meters butterfly events. After graduation, Lennox stayed involved in collegiate swimming by working as an assistant coach at New York University (2013-14), Kenyon College (2014-17) and Princeton (2017-2021).
"Adding Doug Lennox to the Lewis & Clark staff will be instrumental in assisting our athletic programs to meet their goals," Director of Athletics Mark Pietrok said. "His ability to help create connections to alumni, parents, and friends of the athletic department will be instrumental in achieving the support necessary to provide the types of experiences our student-athletes desire. I look forward to collaborating with Doug to moving the Pioneers to even greater heights!"
Since graduating from Princeton in 2009, Lennox has carved out a role as a strong fundraiser and leader. During his time as an assistant coach at Kenyon College, he started the "Friends of Kenyon Swim & Dive" group. The group allows the swim teams to raise funds for their annual training trip so that student-athletes no longer have to pay for the trip themselves. Kenyon swimming, which is renowned as one of the top programs in all of Division III, has become one of the top fundraising programs as well in part because of the creation of "Friends of Kenyon Swim & Dive."
When he returned to his alma mater in 2017, Lennox organized the "Friends of Princeton Swim & Dive" and executed the annual Tiger Athletic Give Day campaigns. He spearheaded fundraising for Princeton's new high-definition scoreboard for their swimming and diving pool and took a leading role in fundraising so that the program could send 10+ students to Olympic Trials.
"Doug's tenacity and proven ability to set and achieve very lofty goals was a major factor in bringing him on board our Advancement team," Vice President for Advancement Josh Walter said. "We are extremely excited for him to bring his proven winning energy to our athletic development initiatives and programs."
In his newly created role, Lennox will take the lead on fundraising campaigns, create long-term fundraising plans and make it easier for coaches to focus on their programs.
"My wife, Sarah, earned her MA in Education at Lewis & Clark and has always spoke glowingly about her experience here," Lennox noted. "By working at Lewis & Clark I am able to fulfill my personal commitment to education, athletics and service to others.
I believe Lewis & Clark can - and will - deliver the best and most meaningful Division III student-athlete experience on the west coast.
Lewis & Clark Athletics has already seen incredible growth over the last five years: we have added two varsity teams, received national recognition for at least three varsity teams, and 85% of our teams have finished in the top six of the Northwest Conference standings. More importantly, our student-athletes comprise over a quarter of our student population and bring their commitment, leadership and school spirit to everyone around them.
I am honored to work alongside my colleagues in athletics, advancement and student life. Together we can support our head coaches, enhance the student-athlete experience and make all past Pioneers proud contributors to the future of Lewis & Clark athletics."
Lennox's Goals For His Position
I have four primary goals as I step into the new position of Athletics Advancement Officer:
1) direct the passion, pride and generosity of all L&C constituents toward making sure the L&C athletics experience is engaging, inclusive and competitive;
2) galvanize the "team around the team" so our students and coaches can focus their energy on being chamPIOns in competition and in our community;
3) provide our coaches the necessary funding to recruit and coach elite student-athletes in an effort to consistently compete for conference titles and represent Lewis & Clark at the National level.
4) improve the facilities, resources and travel opportunities available to our student-athletes.
