A Portland native, Taylor returns for his 18th season as head men's and women's crew coach in the fall of 2023. The 2022-23 season saw Taylor lead the women's crew program back to the Division III NCAA Championship Regatta for the first time since 2006. Lewis & Clark won all four women's races at the Northwest Conference Championship to capture their first-ever NWC Title. Taylor was voted the NWC Coach of the Year and later in the spring, he and assistant coach Claudia Loeber were recognized as the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Division III Pacific Region Coaches of the Year. At Nationals, Lewis & Clark's 1v8+ and 2v8+ boats both won the petite finals to finish seventh overall. Senior coxswain Jaelen Hodges earned CRCA Second Team All-American Honors after guiding the team back to Nationals.

Taylor is a member of the Lewis & Clark Hall of Fame (2005-06 women's crew team - first-ever L&C trip to Nationals) and the University of Puget Sound Hall of Fame (2002-03 women's crew team - finished second at Nationals).

Prior to Lewis & Clark, he was the Head Women's Coach and Program Director at University of Puget Sound, guiding the Loggers to three NCAA DIII Championships podiums. He’s also worked with juniors, masters, and club athletes and works with private clients in both rowing and paddlesport. He’s a graduate of the USRowing L3 Elite Coach certification, an instructor in the USRowing coaching education program, and a lifelong athlete in rowing, cycling, running, and paddling.
