The Fred Wilson Endowment fund fully exemplifies the spirit that
Fred has for Lewis & Clark and the athletic programs on
Palatine Hill. Started in October of 2006, in conjunction with the
naming of the field in Griswold Stadium, this on-going fund will
now enhance the critical funds essential for the recruitment of
quality student-athletes in all sports.
Fred Wilson's legacy at Lewis & Clark touched the lives of
so many. He began teaching and coaching on Palatine Hill in 1956,
after graduating from L&C in 1951. Not only did he serve as the
head football coach for 20 years, Fred also coached baseball,
wrestling, and golf as well as serving as the Director of Athletics
and a professor at the College. In addition to his extensive
coaching career, Fred is a five-time inductee to the Lewis &
Clark Sports Hall of Fame, once as an individual (1980), twice as a
member of an inducted team (1993, 2001), once as an assistant coach
(1995), and once as a head coach (2006).
