PORTLAND, Ore.—Four Lewis & Clark College men's tennis players went 2-0, to help the Pioneers stay undefeated in the L&C Tennis Dome and earn a 6-1 win over Whitworth University on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Sophomore
Joey Lyon and juniors
Wade McDermott,
Kai Wills and
Spencer Loucks all went 2-0, to help Lewis & Clark improve to 5-0 at home this season.
The Pioneers swept the doubles and earned wins at second-sixth singles in a matchup of the two teams picked to finish third (L&C) and fifth (Whitworth) in the NWC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
Wills and McDermott set the tone at number one doubles. The junior duo dominated Whitworth's Lance Dunn and Matthew Morrison 6-1.
Sophomore
Noah Sutin and Lyon added a 6-3 win at second doubles against Ryan Ashley and Matt Froslan to clinch the doubles point.
Senior
Matt Chio and Loucks posted a 6-3 win of their own at third doubles. They knocked off the pair of Matt Hossack and Easton Weir.
McDermott made quick work of Weir at third singles. The Pioneers junior won 6-0, 6-1 at third singles to make it 2-0 Pioneers.
Whitworth claimed their lone win of the day at first singles. Morrison won a nailbiter over Sutin in the first set with a 7-6 (7-3) win. He carried that momentum into the second set to defeat Sutin 7-6 (7-3), 6-0.
Wills would push the Lewis & Clark back to two (3-1) with a win at fourth singles. He dominated the first set (6-0) against Froslan and held on for a 6-0, 7-5 win.
Lyon clinched the match win with a three-setter at second singles. He defeated Ashley 6-1 in the first set, but the Whitworth first year responded with a 6-4 second-set win. In the third set, Lyon bounced back to win 6-1, 4-6, 6-2.
First year
Arnav Bishnoi cruised past Hossack 6-2, 6-1 at fifth singles.
In the final match of the day to finish, Loucks notched a 6-1, 6-4 win at sixth singles over Landon LaBrie.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The Pioneers have already eclipsed their conference win total from a year ago (5-2). This year, the NWC went from a single round-round (seven matches) to a double round-robin (14 matches). Lewis & Clark will play every team in the conference (home and away).
- Lyon moved to 9-1 in singles play this year and earned his sixth-straight singles win on Saturday. He and Bishnoi are both a perfect 5-0 in NWC singles matches.
- Lewis & Clark is now 7-0 at number two doubles in NWC play. Lyon and Sutin are a perfect 5-0 at that position and 6-0 overall in NWC play.
- The Pioneers earned their 14th-straight win over Whitworth. Lewis & Clark's winning streak over the Pirates dates back to the 2013-14 season.
- McDermott won 18 of the 20 games he played on Saturday.
WHO'S NEXT
Lewis & Clark will host Northwest Conference Coaches' Preseason Poll favorite Whitman College on Sunday at 11 a.m. The Blues are a perfect 6-0 in NWC play thus far this year.
