Senior linebacker Mitchell Sarmento made a statement on defense, recording the first two interceptions of his career, both in one game. He snagged the team’s first and fourth interceptions of the day and led Lewis & Clark with eight tackles, including three solo stops. Sarmento picked off a pass on the second play from scrimmage, setting up the game’s opening touchdown. He became the first Lewis & Clark player with multiple interceptions in a game since Tawayne Malone tied the program record with three against Puget Sound in 2019.
