Cross Country Mountain Run
In the Columbia River Gorge, just 30 minutes from L&C, the
2007 cross country team completed their annual mountain run. This
year's run started from Horse Tail Falls by the river and climbed
4000' to the summit of Larch Mountain. The 7.5 mile run on the
rugged trails lead the runners past four water falls (one that the
trail goes behind a falls) and forged several streams. It is a run
that challenges the runners both physically and mentally.
"I was really please how the team work together to get everyone up
the mountain," noted Head Coach Woodard, "It showed promise of good
things ahead this season."
Each year the team runs a course as part of their pre-season
training camp. In 2006, the team ran the Pacific Crest Trail on Mt.
Hood finishing at historic Timberline Lodge ski resort, elevation
6000'. Other years the team conquered Mt. St. Helens (but not into
the active volcano crater!!!), Mary's Peak (the highest point in
the Oregon Coast Range, and Saddle Mountain (also in the Coast
Range.
