HILLSBORO, Ore. -- Helping her team to their first weekend sweep of the season freshman Michelle McGinn had two career-highs against Puget Sound and followed it up with a double-double the next night against Linfield to earn her NWC Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week.
On Friday the Pioneers beat the Puget Sound Loggers in five sets. This was the Pioneers first win against the Loggers since 2011. McGinn had a career-high 23 digs to lead the Pioneers and had a career-high 35 assists, far surpassing her previous record of 23. She also added two service aces. McGinn currently leads the Pioneers in total assists with 326 on the season and is averaging 4.53 assists per set.
The Pioneers were able to maintain their momentum into the next night to beat the Linfield Wildcats in three straight sets. McGinn recorded another double-double totaling 15 assists and 12 digs. This was McGinn's eighth double-double of the season.
McGinn is a freshman from Kailua, Hawaii and plans to major in psychology. She chose Lewis & Clark because when she visited she "fell in love with the campus and the volleyball program."
The Pioneers continue conference play at home this Wednesday against Willamette at 7 p.m. before heading on the road to play George Fox on Saturday.
