Pioneers fall to the Willamette Bearcats

Salem, Ore. -- Lewis & Clark Pioneers drop another conference game to the Willamette Bearcats. The Pioneers were able to take a set in the match, but were not able to finish. Pioneers lost in four (25-20, 22-25, 25-18, 25-18). 

The Pioneers had several strong starts throughout the four sets. "Our defense was strong and disciplined, and our offense was very balanced tonight." Said Head Coach of the Pioneers, Emily Hayes. "At the end of the day, we have to execute at a higher level. Can't wait to see our team practice hard in the gym, and come out strong at home against George Fox on Saturday." The Pioneers continue their conference play this weekend with a record of 1-4 in conference play.

Key Moments:

After dropping the first set, the Pioneers started off strong with kills by Kortney Meyer and Hannah Robles. The Pioneers had an eight point lead in the match which helped them build momentum to finish the set, 25-22. 

The Pioneers struggled in the last two sets to get momentum. Annika San Nicolas and Hannah Robles lead the defense with digs and blocking shutting down the Bearcats offense at points in the two sets.
