2007 Pioneer Volleyball Season Recap

The Pioneer volleyball team ended the year with a 9-17 overall mark and a 5-11 record in the Northwest Conference, finishing in a tie for seventh place. The season started well for the Pioneers with a second-place finish at the Rose-Hulman tournament in Indianapolis, going 3-1 in the Hoosier state. After a rocky first half of the Conference season, the Pioneers found their momentum in the second half, winning three matches in a row late in the season, including a thrilling four-game victory over the Linfield Wildcats on the Pioneers' senior night.
Middle blocker Katherine Fiedler (freshman, San Diego, Calif.)
had an amazing rookie season. She lead the NWC in blocks-per-game
(1.29), and was ranked 38th among all DIII players in that
statistic. Fielder was also one of the Confernece's most efficient
hitters, posting the fifth-best attack percentage in the NWC
(.282). She led the Pioneers with 282 kills, averaging 3.0 per
game. Fiedler was named Second Team All-Northwest
Conference.
Fellow middle blocker Sara Kettler (senior, Dana Point, Calif.) finished off an incredible career by rewriting the record books. Kettler logged a career-high 257 kills with a .267 attack percentage, sixth best in the Northwest Conference. She also logged a career-high 82 total blocks. Kettler ends her career with 170 career block assists, the most in Pioneer history, and is third on the all-time combined blocks list. She is second in career kills with 836. Following Kettler in third place on the career kills list is her teammmate, outside hitter Nicki Smith (senior, Brea, Calif.) with 815. Smith had 250 kills during the 2007 season, also a career high.
Leah Collins (senior, Philo, Calif.) set a new career record for digs, logging 1,037 in her four-year career, eclipsing the old career mark by 160 digs. Collins had a career-high 338 in 2007 for the Pioneers.
