WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers' six-match winning streak came to an end on Sunday afternoon in a 7-2 loss to the Whitman Blues at the Whitman Tennis Courts. The Pios were able to win one match from each of the doubles and singles lineups.
For the doubles matches, partners Natalie Kelly and Glenna Gee-Taylor were the only team that came out victorious in an 8-6 defeat of Jenna Gilbert and Lori Sheng. In the top match, Kacey Incerpi and Christine Eliazo were defeated by Hanna Greenberg and Andrea Gu, 8-4, while Chloe Sermet and Madelyn Landerfelt lost at No. 2 to Mary Hill and Anastasiya Redkina, 8-3.
In the singles lineup, Incerpi earned a team point for the Pios after defeating Gu in a first set tiebreaker 7-6 (8-6) and winning the second set, 6-2. Eliazo lost to Hill, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1, and Sermet was defeated 6-2, 6-1 by Sheng at No. 4.
Both Landerfelt and Riley Hanks were lost at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively. Landerfelt lost 6-2, 6-1 to Redkina, while Hanks fell 6-1, 6-2 to Gilbert.
Kelly came close to earning another team point for the Pioneers, but lost to Greenberg in a third-set tiebreaker, 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-5).
Lewis & Clark will be home this upcoming weekend, challenging Austin on Saturday at 4 p.m. followed by George Fox on Mar. 18 at 11 a.m.
