SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers grabbed their third win in as many days, with a 6-3 win at the Scotford Tennis Center, hosted by the Whitworth Pirates.
Doubles wins at the one and three spot helped the Pios to the first two points of the afternoon. Natasha Hood and Chloe Sermet were the first to finish, beating the Pirate pair 8-4. Wiktoria Plawska and Kacey Incerpi finished next, pulling off an 8-3 win at the one spot, against Bella Hoyos and Paige Rohrbach of Whitworth. The pair of Carla Thomas and Josie Legarza dropped their number two doubles match.
The loss left the Pioneers with only a one point lead going into singles play.
No. 1 Plawska lost her first singles match since March 26, 2016, breaking a 13 match winning streak. At the No. 2 spot, Josie Legarza swept 6-0, 6-0. No. 3 Kacey Incerpi also beat her Whitworth opponent, 6-2, 6-0. Legarza and Incerpi grabbed the first two singles points for the Pioneers, followed by Natasha Hood and Carla Thomas at five and six singles.
The win brought Lewis & Clark, who is currently ranked 18th in the ITA Division III national poll and third in the west region, to 3-0 in Northwest Conference Play, and dropped Whitworth to 0-2 in NWC, 0-3 overall.
The Pioneers return to the L&C Tennis Dome on Saturday at 11 a.m. to take on Linfield.
