SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Lewis & Clark senior Wiktoria Plawska lost her play-in match at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Oracle Cup on Wednesday night, which ends her run at the national tournament.
Plawska lost 6-1, 7-5 to Kathy Joseph of the University of Texas-Dallas in the Northwest play-in match at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex. The Northwest is one of two regions that has play-in matches due to the configuration of the region.
To qualify for the ITA Oracle Cup, Plawska defeated Ella Riddle of Linfield at the ITA Regional Championship last month. Riddle was the No. 1 seed in the tournament. Plawska, the No. 4 seed, also earned All-American status because of the victory.
Lewis & Clark has the last two Northwest ITA Regional women's singles champions, with Summer Garrison winning in 2015. Claudia Lew and Christine Eliazo were also doubles champions last season. This year, three of the four semifinalists at the ITA Regional were from Lewis & Clark.
Joseph advances to the tournament field and will play on Thursday against No. 3 seed Rebecca Ho of Washington University-St. Louis.
Plawska finished the 2015-16 regular season with a 14-2 record.
