Against 25 shots from Whitworth, Pios earn point in hard-fought draw

SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers (3-7-2, 1-6-1) tie the Whitworth Pirates (7-2-3, 5-1-2) in double overtime. The Pioneers only had four shots overall this game compared to the 25 shots that the Pirates took. Both team went scoreless the entire game ending in a tie, 0-0.

The Pioneers defense stood out this game with ending numerous amounts of offensive attacks by the Pirates. The Pioneers offense struggled to make attacks the entire game. The Pioneers defense had their best showing of the season defending 25 shots which is far more than any other oppnent this season so far. The Pioneers had zero shots in the first and second overtime.

Key Moments 

The Pioneers had two shots on goal in the first half of the game by Courtney Schmidt and Anna Saucedo. The Pirates went on numerous offense attacks throughout this half and had four shots on goal. The Pioneers defense put a stop to all the offensive attacks by the Pirates. Mali PetersonWood stopped several attacks this half. The goalie Abby Prager had four saves, a personal best as a Pio, going into the second half keeping the Pirates scoreless. 

Early in the second half, the Pirates had a offensive drive that was saved by Mali PetersenWood. The Pioneers then went on an offensive run ending in a shot on goal by Anna Saucedo that was too far right. The Pirates had 12 shots compared to the one shot by the Pioneers. The Pioneers defense continued to shut down the Pirates offense with goalie, Abby Prager, having two more saves in this half. The Pioneers hold the Pirates off going into overtime.
