2007 Pioneer Women's Soccer Season Recap

The Pioneer women's soccer team finished the 2007 season with a 2-14-2 overall record. The team's two victories came over Northwest Conference opponent Pacific. In their third NWC game of the season, the Pioneers dominated the Boxers at Griswold Stadium, with Lisa Housman (senior, Beverly Hills, Calif.) scoring a hat trick. It was the second time in Housman's career she scored three goals against the Boxers. The Pioneers' other victory over Pacific came in Forest Grove in October where tight defense helped the Pioneers hold on for a 1-0 blanking of Pacific.

The Pioneers played a pair of overtime heartbreakers. In their first meeting of the season with George Fox, the two teams were knotted at 1-1 through the first overtime, with Fox kicking in the deciding goal 43 seconds into the second overtime. In their toughest loss of the season, the Pioneers came from behind in their game against the Whitman Missionaries on senior day. With two seconds left in the game, Sophie Trick (freshman, Arlingto, Va.) scored the tying goal to force OT. The Missionaries had a shot deflect into the goal in the first overtime to swipe a victory from the Pioneers.

Lisa Housman earned her third post-season honor, being named to the Womens' Soccer All-Northwest Conference Second Team. Housman had a team-high eight goals, totaling 16 points. She was also named to the All-NWC Second Team in 2004 and 2005 in her freshman and sophomore seasons. She ends her career with 34 goals.

Midfielder Katie Burnett (senior, Los Angeles, Calif.) earned her second All-NWC honorable mention, an honor she also earned in 2006.

Goalkeeper Nora Germano (seior, Los Altos, Calif.) ends her career with 475 career saves. The four-year starter for the Pioneers started all but five games in her Pioneer career.

The Pioneers will begin a new era of soccer in 2008. In January, two-year head coach Lisa Unsworth announced her resignation. Steve Golas will take over the program for next season.

The Pioneers opne the 2008 campaign at home, hosting Warner Pacific College at Griswold Stadium September 1, 2008 at 12 noon.
