Pioneers finish first with two players tied for medalist honors

CORVALILS, Ore. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers finished women's side of the Willamette Valley Cup in first place with two golfers tied for medalist honors and all four in the top 10. The men's team finished in fifth place with two golfers in the top 20. The women's team hit a 331, which totaled to a 683 and the men's team hit a 329 for a two-day total of 671.

Women

Mady Rhodenbaugh and Annika Clunk both tied for first place after the end of the second round. Both finished with a total score of 160 with Rhodenbaugh completing round two with a 78 and Clunk with a 79.

"Our Women came home winning the overall team score," said head coach James Yen. "They capped it with a tie for the individual winner and ultimately Clunk came away winning it in a coin flip over Rhodenbaugh."

Jane Almeida finished tied for sixth place and had a second round score of 88 and a total score of 179. Tori Eichten placed 10th with a total of 184 and finished round two with an 86.

"We now have a break before we end the season with a three-week grind to finish the year," said Yen. "Very pleased overall in this teams progress to handle adversity and improve from day one to day two."

Men

Jacob Bell and Spencer Long finished in the top 20 with Bell tying for 14th and Long tying for 20th. Bells and Longs two day total was 3 shots apart with Bell shooting a respectable 156 and Long a 159.

David Furman finished 26th with a 175 and Kade McCoy finished 28th with a 181. Nick Lombardi had a 105 in the second round and a total of 204.

"Our men played well…" Said Head Coach James Yen "But not up to their potential."

The Pioneers will be heading into the NWC Spring Classic on Apr. 7-8 after spring break. Start time for the event is TBA and it will be at Hangman Valley Golf Course, Spokane, Wash.

Day 1

The Lewis & Clark Golf Team finished their first round of this weekends Willamette Valley Cup. The men's team is currently in fifth place with a total score of 342 (+58), 31 strokes behind Pacific. The women's team is in first with a total score of 352 (+68), 12 strokes in front of Pacific.

Women

The women's team had an outstanding first round with two players finishing in the top three. Annika Clunk tied for first with Briana Finau from Pacific both hit 10-over-par 81.

Mady Rhodenbaugh hit one stroke behind Clunk with an 82.

Jane Almeida is tied for seventh place and finished with a 91 while Tori Eichten is in 13th place with a 98.

Men

For the Pioneers men's team, Jacob Bell was their top finisher with 4-over-par 75 coming in at ninth. He is four strokes behind Mason Koch ranked at number one who finished with a 71.

Spencer Long came in at 24th place with a 12-over-par 83. David Furman finished in 26th place with an 89. Kade McCoy hit a 95 placing 29th and Nick Lombardi hit a 99 finishing 30th.
