Pioneers take down Geoducks, once again holding opponent under 60

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers extended their winning streak with a 65-55 victory against the host Evergreen State Geoducks on Saturday night. A pair of underclassmen, Janessa Willie and Alyx Crager, came off the bench for the Pioneers and were vital in their offensive comeback.

At the end of the first quarter, the Goeducks (0-3) led 12-7. After an early second quarter Lewis & Clark comeback, the game was within five points until three minutes into the third period when the Pioneers pulled ahead by 10. A string of points from Willie, a sophomore guard, started with a 3-pointer and was followed by two free-throws, and helped Lewis & Clark to pull ahead and hold on to the lead for the remainder of the game.

Crager, a sophomore guard, came into the game in the second quarter, immediately making an impact with an assist to Rachel Cox. She followed it up on the next play with an offensive rebound and clutch layup. She finished the game 3 of 7 on field goals, with one steal and five rebounds.

Junior captain Miyah Leith ended the night with five points and five rebounds, once again vital in distributing the ball for the Pioneers offense. Her game-high five steals were also imperative in a defensive shut down, as the Pioneers (2-1) held their opponent to 60 points or less for the third game in a row.

For the third game in a row, Ayisat Afolabi posted more than 10 points, raking in a game-high 15. She also posted six rebounds and two assists. Junior Lauren Wood followed her double-digit game on Friday by putting up 12 points, three steals and three rebounds against Evergreen State.

Once again sinking almost all of their free throws, the Pioneers ended the game 8 for 9 with an 88.9 percentage.

The Pioneers play at home on Nov. 25 against Walla Walla at 2 p.m.
