Track & Field Notebook: Jackson sets new personal best

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Following the Northwest Conference Championships, the final full-team event for the Lewis & Clark Pioneers, a few Pios competed in three recent events over a week's span.

Senior Amelia Jackson has competed in all three events - OSU High Performance, Oregon Twilight and Linfield Open - and set a new personal best in the 800 meters. Racing at Oregon State, Jackson crossed in 2:17.13 on Apr. 27 to improve her all-time best by over a second. The following weekend, Jackson raced to a 2:18.16 time at the Oregon Twilight. Jackson also raced in the 1,500 meters at last Saturday's Linfield Open and finished with a time of 5:04.76.

Jackson was joined by several teammates at the Linfield Open including Rachelle Locey, who placed third in the long jump. The seventh-place finisher in the event at the NWC Championships, Locey jumped 16 feet, 1.5 inches (4.91m). She also placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 33 feet, 6.75 inches (10.23m).

Morgan Taylor was 1.5 inches away from her personal best in the high jump with a mark of 4 feet, 9 inches (1.45m) to place sixth. Noah Avery was the only men's team member to compete, placing eighth in the high jump at 6 feet (1.83m).

Lewis & Clark is scheduled to compete at the Portland Twilight, the last day of which will be on campus at Eldon Fix Track at Griswold Stadium, this Saturday.
