HILLSBORO, Ore. -- Helping the Pioneers to two dual wins last weekend senior August Bergh won all six events in which he was entered. His performance earned him Northwest Conference Student-Athlete of the Week.
On Friday the Pioneers faced off against the newly formed George Fox team. Bergh won the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:51.31 followed closely behind by teammate Alex Spiecker with a time of 10:51.97. Bergh dominated the long races also winning the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:10.27. In addition to winning both his individual races Bergh, along with teammates Ian Shepel, Andrew Butcher and Sam Raphael, beat George Fox by a little over a second to take home the victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The men won the meet 134-45.
The next day the Pioneers faced off against visiting Pacific. Bergh won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:52.30. He then followed that up with a victory in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.69. Bergh also helped the Pioneers to a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay with the help of Shepel, Raphael and JP Greener. The Pioneers won the event 151-35 with wins in all four relay events and 16 out of 18 individual events.
Last year Bergh was named to the All-NWC Second Team after placing fifth in the 500-yard freestyle, seventh in the 200-yard freestyle, and sixth in the 1650 yard freestyle at the NWC Championship.
The Pioneers continue with their fall semester schedule competing at the Logger Invitational on Nov. 30 - Dec. 2. After winter break the Pioneers will then return on Jan. 11 with a dual at Pacific and will return back to Zehntbauer to take on Willamette on Jan. 12.
