Ruthie Ditzler Second Team All-American

First year Pioneer rower Ruthie Ditzler (freshman, Seattle, Wash.) was named Pocock Second Team All-American in post-season national honors released by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association this week. The award recognizes the outstanding performances of rowers and coxswains at NCAA III institutions.
In order to qualify as an All-American, the student-athlete must meet all eligibility rules as defined by her institution, must have participated in at least 75% of all races during the current season (all races before and including May 4, 2008), and must have rowed at least 75% of the season’s races in the varsity boat (all race before and including May 4, 2008).
Eight rowers among all DIII rowing athletes are named to the first team with eight more earning second team honors based on strength of schedule, regular season record, end of season regatta results, nomination rank, coach’s comments, and the athlete's 2,000 meter erg score.
"Ruthie was among a number of freshman and transfer students who shone for us this year," said Head Coach Sam Taylor. "She represents the direction we're trying to take the program. She works very hard every day and always does so with a great sense of humor."
Ditzler is the third Pioneer to earn All-American honors. In 2004, Stacey Skiftenes was the Pioneers' first All-American rower. In 2005, Becca Carleton was a First Team All-American for Lewis & Clark.
