PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers remain undefeated, keeping their top spot in the Northwest Conference standings after a 9-0 defeat of the Willamette Bearcats.
Saturday's match, hosted at the L&C Tennis Dome, followed much as the past weekends match against Linfield. The Pioneers grabbed all three doubles points, and allowed Michael Brewer and Raed Attia rest before tomorrow's match against Whitman. Willamette is now 1-5 in NWC play, and seventh in the overall standings.
At No. 1 doubles, Gordon and Brenden Barrow's extended their record to 5-2 in NWC play after an 8-2 win against Willamette's Gunnar Lee and Aaron Schechter. On court two, the No. 2 pair of Brewer and Attia won their match in straight sets. The Pioneers managed to only drop a cumulative 4 games in doubles, with No. 3 Jackson Powell and Ben DeLuca winning their match 8-2.
Lewis & Clark won all six singles matches in two sets, with no Bearcat winning more than three games in a set.
The Pios followed the same game plan as they did last Saturday against Linfield, moving G. Barrows to the one spot. Barrows defeated the Willamette No. 1, Gunnar Lee, 6-3, 6-0. Powell was the first Lewis & Clark player to finish, only allowing one game against in the first set, and two in the second, for a 6-1, 6-2 set score. DeLuca also only let three slide, with set scores of 6-2, 6-1, at the four spot. At No. 3, B. Barrows defeated Hunter Yee, with one of the best set scores of the day, leaving him with a 6-0, 6-1, victory.
At No. 5, Brendan Adams played his first official singles match of the season. He only allowed the Bearcats Colin Fisher one game in his 6-0, 6-1, win. Playing No. 6, Keane Hindle won his point, grabbing set scores of 6-2, 6-0.
The Pioneers take on #8 Whitman tomorrow at 11 a.m at home.
