PORTLAND, Ore. -- The undefeated No. 33 Lewis & Clark Pioneers hosted the Linfield Wildcats on Saturday at the L&C Tennis Dome, grabbing their second win, 9-0, against the Wildcats this season.
Finishing first in doubles, No. 3 Jackson Powell and Keane Hindle took down Trent Prussing and Jacob Mangan, 8-1. Competing in their first Northwest Conference doubles match together, the pair now has a 1-0 record.
Gordon Barrows and Brenden Barrows redeemed themselves from their loss at No. 1 singles the last time that the Pioneers took on the Wildcats (2-5, 2-3 NWC) last Saturday, the only match that the Pios dropped. During the second match up with Linfield, the Barrows' faced new opponents, Jose Luis Rojas and John Lutaaya, beating them 8-2. The Wildcats No. 1 hurt his back, pushing Linfield to present a new lineup. At No. 2, Raed Attia and Michael Brewer also won, 8-5.
It was a day of firsts for the Pioneers in singles. With both teams playing new lineups, G. Barrows played his first match at No. 1 singles this season, Powell had his first at No. 2, B. Barrows played at the No. 3 spot, and at No. 4, Hindle played his first match above the No. 6 spot this season.
Powell finished first, winning 6-2, 6-0 against Prussing. He was followed by Hindle, who won 6-0, 6-3 over Mangan. Following suit, B. Barrows also won, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 3, taking four straight games in the first set to pull ahead from a 2-3 deficit against Nathan Saragoza. Barrows and Hindle remain undefeated in NWC singles play, with 6-0 and 2-0 records, respectively.
G. Barrows came back from a first set deficit of 2-3, to eventually win 7-5 over Rojas. After a few contested calls on the other side of the net, Barrows took the second set, 6-2.
Kei Inoue was the last Pioneer to finish, grabbing the win in twelve straight sets over Carter Pentz.
The Pioneers (6-0, 6-0 NWC) take on Pacific Lutheran Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in Tacoma.
