TACOMA, Wash. -- Andrew Vickers scored eight points in overtime, and the Lewis & Clark Pioneers beat the Puget Sound Loggers, 76-70, on Saturday night at Memorial Fieldhouse.
Vickers hit a 3-pointer from the corner and a long one from up top, plus a drive-and-score layup, to move the Pioneers ahead with 1:30 left in overtime. Cannen Roberson, who hit a three with 50 seconds left in regulation, made a layup and was fouled, missing the free throw, with 26 seconds to go in the extra period. The pair combined for 31 points in the game.
The game, Lewis & Clark's second-straight overtime contest after losing on Tuesday night, 103-96, at George Fox, is the Pioneers' first win on the road this season.
Alex Jones, who finished with 14 points, made a 3-pointer to tie the game with under nine minutes left in the first half before Kyle Owens hit two 3-pointers to give the Pioneers a 27-24 lead in the first half. Lewis & Clark (5-8; 2-2 NWC) eventually led by six at halftime.
There were 10 ties and six lead changes in the game. In the second half, Puget Sound (9-4; 2-2 NWC) knotted the game at 52-52 with 6:11 remaining before taking the lead with 4:08 left. Carlos Mancasola's 3-pointer moved the Loggers up 57-52 with 3:05 left.
The teams traded baskets - a Vickers 3-pointer and Kohl Meyer's layup - as Puget Sound remained ahead by four with 1:41 remaining before Roberson hit his three. Meyer split a pair of free throws with 27 seconds left, and 20 seconds later, Cory Coombe made two free throws to tie the game and send it into overtime.
The victory keeps Lewis & Clark in a five-way tie for third in the Northwest Conference standings with one more road game - Friday at Pacific - before the Pios play six of seven at home.
