Men's Basketball Adds Six New Players

The Pioneer men's basketball team had a great off-season, putting together a strong recruiting class for the 2008-09 season. Adding five talented freshmen and a transfer from Chemeketa College, the Pioneers look to make it to the post-season this coming year.

James Edwards is a 6-3, 200 lb guard from Jesuit High in Carmichael, Calif. As a junior, Edwards was a named Delta League First Team, Second Team All-City, and Second Team All-State (DII). Last season, he was the MVP of the Delta League, All-City First Team, and All-State First Team. His father, Franklin Edwards, played in the NBA for eight seasons as members of the Sixers, Clippers, and Kings.

Drake Green is a 6-2, 185 lb shooting guard out of Oakland, Calif., one of two incoming freshman from the Bay Area. Green played three years of varsity baskerball at Oakland High, being named to the Skyline Tournament All-Tournament team.

James Hollins is a 6-3, 185 lb guard out of St Mary's High School in Phoenix, Ariz. Hollins was named First Team Arizona State Tournament, Second Team All-Region, and an honorable mention for All-State.

Scott Pisapia, a 6-2, 175 lb point guard from RA Long High in Longview, Wash., followed up his honorable mention All-League his junior year with a First Team selection for the GSHL2A his senior season.

Kenneth Rice, a 6-7, 225 lb forward, is transferring to Lewis & Clark from Salem's Chemeketa College where he was named to the NWAAC All-Academic team. Rice attended Lakeridge High in neighboring Lake Oswego, Ore. where he was named First Team All-Three Rivers League.

PJ Taylor, the other of the Pioneers' Bay Area recruits, is a 5-10, 180 lb point guard from Oakland High in Oakland, Calif. Taylor was a two-time Second Team All-OAL selection, being named First Team OAL in his senior season. He was also an honorable mention All-Bay Area selection.

The Pioneers' season gets underway on November 15 when they host Corban College at the Pamplin Sports Center. The Pioneer men will play host to the Bon Appetit Tournament Nov 21-22 at Pamplin. The early season game to watch is a rematch with Portland State, with the two teams tipping off at the Stott Center on the PU campus Tuesday, December 9, the Pioneers' lone DI game of the season.
