Ryan is in his first season with the Pioneers after serving as an assistant coach at Calument College in Whiting, Ind. During his time at Calument he was the head catching coach, where he implemented a lifting program for catchers for leg and core strength, started a long toss program and created a conditioning regiment for the team. He was also in charge of calling the game for the pitching staff, while encouraging the athletes to demonstrate good sportsmanship and passion for baseball in a positive manner.
Schiever spent the summer of 2010 playing for the Gary Railcats of the Northern League of Professional Baseball. Prior to joining the Railcats, he spent four seasons with the Melrose Indians, where he was a four-year starting catcher, earning a spot on the All-Star team the summer of 2008.
Schiever began his college playing career at Calumet College of St. Joseph, where he was named Defensive Player of the Year. The following season he transferred to Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, where he split time as the starting catcher for the top-25 ranked Cougars. Schiever finished his career with Triton College, where he led the team to a top-25 ranking in 2007. He was also named to the All-Region, All-Conference, and All-District teams during the 2007 season.
Schiever graduated with a bachelor of arts in integrated communications.
