Baseball Falls to Whitworth in Series Finale
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark baseball team fell to the Whitworth Pirates in the Northwest Conference series finale on Sunday afternoon at the Huston Sports Complex. The Pirates earned a 17-6 victory to take the series two games to one.
The win helps the Pirates improve to 8-11 on the season and 3-3 in the conference. The Pioneers slip to 3-14 overall and 2-10 in NWC action.
Whitworth captured a 5-0 lead after two complete innings, platting three in the first and two in the second. The Pioneers pulled within one run in the bottom of the fourth.
A huge fifth inning saw the Pirates extend their advantage to 13-4. Whitworth tacked on four more runs in the seventh to go up 17-4.
Laurence ended the day 1-3 from the plate with two runs scored. Lavin scored once for the Pios, finishing 1-3 from the plate, while knocking in three RBIs.
Tyler Pfeffer was 4-6 for the Pirates, scoring four times, while picking up five RBIs. Nick Ashley was 3-5 from the plate, scoring twice and knocking in three runners.
Liam O'Brien earned the win for the Pirates after pitching six innings, giving up four runs on five hits. Sophomore Eliot Smith credited with the loss after pitching 4.1 innings, giving up 10 runs on 10 hits.
The Pioneers return to action on Tuesday, March 22 when they travel to Corban College for two seven inning games.
