Fred Wilson Endowment Fully Developed
In true Pioneer spirit, we are thrilled to announce that the
Fred Wilson Endowment has reached over $50,000 allowing us to begin
using the interest to support and meet the recruitment goals for
all sports at Lewis & Clark!
The Fred Wilson Endowment fund fully exemplifies the spirit that
Fred has for Lewis & Clark and the athletic programs on
Palatine Hill. Started in October of 2006, in conjunction with the
naming of the field in Griswold Stadium, this on-going fund will
now enhance the critical funds essential for the recruitment of
quality student-athletes in all sports.
Because the enticement of talented student-athletes to share in
Pioneer Pride requires a lot of staff time and travel, the Fred
Wilson Endowment was established so that these flexible and ongoing
funds could be used to reach the goals set for successful
recruiting as well as to meet future financial challenges sure to
face athletics. Through the Fred Wilson Endowment the athletic
department will be able to continue to recruit at competitive
levels within the Northwest Conference and provide the best
possible experience for all of our student-athletes.
Fred Wilson’s legacy at Lewis & Clark touched the lives
of so many. He began teaching and coaching on Palatine Hill in
1956, after graduating from L&C in 1951. Not only did he serve
as the head football coach for 20 years, Fred also coached
baseball, wrestling, and golf as well as serving as the Director of
Athletics and a professor at the College. In addition to his
extensive coaching career, Fred is a five-time inductee to the
Lewis & Clark Sports Hall of Fame, once as an individual
(1980), twice as a member of an inducted team (1993, 2001), once as
an assistant coach (1995), and once as a head coach (2006).
The financial support of many to this continual fund has been
vital to the growing success of the athletics programs at Lewis
& Clark. Please
