Find Your Voice, Commit To Lead, was the title of the 2008 NCAA National Student-Athlete Development Conference held May 25-29 in Orlando, Florida at the Walt Disney World Resort.  The conference was broken into two parts with each segment bringing together 350 athletes from every division and sport.  The Lewis & Clark student-athlete representatives selected to participate were Lindsay Nixon (Senior, Swimming) and David Berman (Senior, Cross Country/Track).  They each spent two days in groups of about 28 breaking down what it means to be a leader and discussing the issues affecting student- athletes today.  Discussions ranged from race and gender to what is the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).  The conference also put a focus on developing a personal mission statement  and defining each athlete’s particular purpose.  By combining all of these aspects of the conference student-athletes were able to look inward and find their direction, along with better ways for being a productive leader on their teams, on their campuses and in their communities.
